Zoya Tote Bag

The Zoya Tote Bag is a chic and practical crochet bag that easily fits into your everyday life. Whether you’re heading to the office, running errands, shopping, or enjoying a fun day out, this tote is designed to carry it all with style.

Why “Zoya”?

The name Zoya means life—a playful nod to the way many women describe their bag as holding their “whole life.” With space for all your essentials (and then some), this tote certainly lives up to its name. Just don’t forget to keep an eye on it!

A Crochet Tote for Every Occasion

Crochet totes are wonderfully versatile. They’re perfect for carrying the little things you need day to day, but also sturdy enough for larger items like books, laptops, or even a set of gym clothes.

The Zoya Tote starts with a solid bottom for structure. From there, you’ll move on to the body, worked in a satisfying rhythm of sc3tog stitches that give the bag its unique texture. To finish, you’ll create sturdy handles made with fun-to-crochet Romanian cords.

Skill Level

I’ve designed the pattern to be as beginner-friendly as possible. That said, a few of the stitches may take a little practice, so I’ve rated the pattern as intermediate. Don’t let that scare you—once you get into the flow, it’s a very rewarding project.

Yarn Choice: Hobbii Friends Ribbon Gold

For this design, I used Hobbii Friends Ribbon Gold—a super bulky yarn made of 90% cotton and 10% polyester. It has a unique flattened tubular structure, making it soft, flexible, and wonderfully durable.

The color range includes all the classic Friends shades, with a subtle golden sparkle woven in. This makes Ribbon Gold easy to mix and match with other yarns from the Friends collection.

Ribbon Gold is also a fantastic choice for other home and accessory projects like baskets, placemats, potholders, pillow covers, carpets—and of course, bags and totes. Best of all, it’s machine washable at 30°C (86°F), making it perfect for everyday use.
