The Palomine Poncho, Crochet for Comfort

The Palomine Poncho is a colourful crochet poncho that works up quicker than expected! (The secret ingredient for that is the hdc!)

Crochet poncho

The energy crisis was my inspiration for this crochet poncho.

As many people, we decided to turn the heating lower. In our case lower meant going from 18.5 to 17.5 degrees.

Brrr! Yes, I know! My ten year old daughter who is very active, is never cold, but as a crocheter I spend many hours on the couch, barely moving. I needed an extra layer! As wearing two jumpers is not very comfortable, I put a blanket around my shoulders for extra warmth, but that wasn’t comfortable at ALL! I could barely move my arms and I basically felt very restricted. Getting up from the couch I’d lose all the warmth because I had to leave the blanket behind.

The Palomine Poncho is like a small blanket but it has the necessary openings for you to not feel stifled. You can wear it whilst crocheting and stay mobile at the same time. Basically, she is a true pal!

You’ll start the Palomine Poncho from the bottom which makes it very easy to add extra rows to your poncho if you’d like it to be longer.

The pattern is suitable for the advanced beginner. The most important stitches are the double crochet, half double crochet and single crochet. I’ve made a photo tutorial to make it even easier. You will have some ends to weave in.

Half double crochet stitch

As mentioned before this crochet poncho consists for a big part of half double crochet stitches! It’s my favourite crochet stitch because it’s so smooth, easy and fast!

On the other rows you’ll make double crochet stitches in the back loop to create that awesome texture.

I chose to change colour every two rows, but you can easily change the look of the poncho by playing with colours. What about making a unicoloured one? I included my colour scheme in the pattern!

Colorful Creativity with Hobbii Amigo Yarn

Hobbii Amigo Yarn

Yarn selection: Hobbii Amigo

Hobbii’s No Shades Of Grey challenge came along when I had the idea to design a poncho. I turned out to be a match made in heaven! I chose to work with Hobbii Amigo in a variety of colours.

Amigo is a DK weight acrylic yarn that’s soft as a feather. It has a wonderful, airy volume. It is produced from 100% HB acrylic of a very high quality and comes in a big selection of colors.

By the way, HB stands for High-bulk. It is a production technique that uses steam and pressure to make the fibers contract a little and curl so that they become fuller. The result is a light and soft yarn that is both comfortable to work with and to wear on the body.
