The Knot So Bag
The Knot So Bag has instantly turned into one of my favourite designs. I love the combination of the traditional Granny stitch and the Japanese knot bag, traditional in Japanese culture.
Japanese knot bags
Japanese knot bags are small, open, tote bags with one detail that makes them unique. They are designed with one handle longer than the other. You slip the longer handle through the shorter one to form a knot and close the bag. This way you can loop it over your wrist.
Granny clusters
I used Granny clusters, or groups of three double crochet stitches, for almost the entire bag. This stitch pattern remains so popular and got even trendier the past few years. It feels like a true homage to those ladies way back when, who first used this stitch pattern. If only they knew!

Benefits of picking up a crochet hook
Whereas back in 1800, when those first grannies were made, crochet was a survival skill for us human beings, nowadays it’s all about helping our planet survive and mental health.
When you use your hands, your brain starts producing all these feel-good hormones like dopamine and serotonin. And they are the most natural antidepressants that exist!
Crochet can also help you feel calmer and reduce anxiety by just focusing on the project in your hands. The easy, repetitive movements that make up crocheting can ease your body and mind. (According to the American Counseling Association)
Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/6
I love using cotton for my bags as it doesn’t really stretch and is 100% biodegradable. Linen is a good alternative as it’s even more sustainable.
Friends Cotton 8/6 is made out of 6 threads spun together. BIG plus, the whole range comes with an “easy start” pull-out tab, making it much easier to find the beginning of your skein.
The yarn is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified (no. 2276-367).
Beginner friendly
This bag works up pretty fast and the pattern is beginner friendly. It contains helpful photos.
You’ll make the bag in one piece so you’ll have minimal sewing to do.
My testers did a great job, go check out which colours they picked!
