The Cosy Star Christmas Bauble – Free Crochet Pattern
As autumn settles in and the days grow shorter, many of us begin turning our thoughts towards the festive season. There’s something wonderfully comforting about preparing handmade decorations while the weather cools and the first hints of Christmas start to appear.
I’m delighted to introduce my latest seasonal design — the Cosy Star Christmas Bauble. This soft and subtly sparkling ornament combines texture and simplicity, making it a timeless addition to your festive décor.
Double stranded
For this project, I held Durable Cosy Fine together with Durable Starlux , so it’s a double stranded project. I love this pairing of warmth and shimmer. The result is a bauble that feels soft to the touch, yet catches the light in the loveliest way. I used a 4.5 mm crochet hook and 6 cm styrofoam balls as the base, giving the finished pieces a neat and professional shape.
Beginner-friendly
The Cosy Star pattern is beginner-friendly, making it an ideal project for those new to crochet or anyone looking for a quick, satisfying make. These baubles come together quickly, so you can easily create a full set — perfect for decorating your tree, adding to garlands, or gifting to friends and family.

The pattern
This is a double threaded project. You’ll hold the two different yarns together.
| Round 1 | Mr, ch2, 1dc (counts as dc2tog), ch1, (dc2tog, ch1) 5x, slst. Fasten off. (12) |
| Round 2 | (Dc2tog) 4x in each ch-1 sp. Fasten off. (24) (I started this round with a standing dc2tog but you could also make a slst and ch2 and make a dc.) |
| Round 3 | 1dc in each sp between each dc2tog of the last round Fasten off. (24) (I started this round with a standing dc, but you could also slst, ch3.) |
| Round 4 | 1sc in each st, slst in 1st sc. Fasten off and leave a long tail. On 2nd half leave an even longer tail to use to sew together the bauble. (24) (I started this round with a standing sc, but you could also slst, ch1 and make a sc in the same st.) Sew two halves together around the ball. |
