Cecily Scarf
I’m so excited to introduce the updated Cecily Scarf, a modern crochet scarf designed around the beautiful herringbone half double crochet stitch. This stitch creates a subtle, elegant texture while giving the scarf a lovely drape and fluid movement.
Whether you prefer a timeless, single-coloured accessory or something a little more playful, the Cecily Scarf gives you both options in one pattern.
A Relaxing Crochet Project
The Cecily Scarf is worked from tip to tip, creating a beautifully balanced shape.
You’ll begin at one tip and gradually increase until the scarf reaches its full width. From there, you’ll work through the body section using an easy, repeating stitch pattern. The rhythm of the herringbone hdc makes this part especially relaxing to crochet, while the subtle texture keeps it interesting.
Once you’ve reached your desired length, you’ll begin decreasing towards the opposite tip, creating a graceful, tapered finish.
The result is a scarf with a beautiful shape and effortless drape.
Striped or Uni-Coloured?
One of my favourite things about the Cecily Scarf is that you can choose the look you love most.
The pattern now includes instructions for both a striped and a uni-coloured version. Make it in one colour for a simple, timeless accessory, or combine contrasting colours to create a more playful and eye-catching scarf.
Both versions are explained in the pattern, so you can easily decide which style suits you best.

The Herringbone Half Double Crochet Stitch
The herringbone half double crochet, or herringbone hdc, is what gives the Cecily Scarf its distinctive texture.
It creates a subtle diagonal effect across the fabric without making the stitch pattern feel complicated. Once you get into the rhythm of the stitch, it becomes wonderfully repetitive and relaxing to work.
If you haven’t tried herringbone hdc before, don’t worry. The pattern includes a detailed explanation and step-by-step photos to guide you through it.
Choose Your Perfect Length
Everyone has a different preference when it comes to scarves, which is why the Cecily Scarf comes in three length options: Short, Medium and Long.
And if none of those is quite right for you, the pattern also explains how to adjust the length, so you can make your scarf exactly as long as you’d like.
A Scarf You’ll Love to Wear
The Cecily Scarf is designed to be a relaxing project with a satisfying, repetitive stitch pattern and a beautifully balanced finished shape.
Make it in a single colour for a classic and elegant accessory, or add contrasting stripes for a fun pop of colour. Whichever version you choose, the herringbone texture and graceful drape make this a scarf you’ll want to reach for again and again.
I hope you enjoy crocheting the Cecily Scarf as much as I enjoyed designing it! 💛
